Hing
Interviewer: Where are you from?
Hing: I am from a little-known place called Hong Kong.
Interviewer: Isn’t that where Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan are from too?
Hing: Yeah, so you’ve heard about Hong Kong!
Interviewer:  Of course, I love Hong Kong movies! So, how did you learn English?
Hing: In Hong Kong, we start learning English since kindergarten, and we have an equal number of English and Chinese classes in school. Because Hong Kong used to be a British colony, we study British English in school, and English is still one of the official languages of Hong Kong.

Interviewer: Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?
Hing:  Sure!  After finishing secondary school in Hong Kong, I went to Switzerland and Australia to study hotel management (1 year in Switzerland, and 3 years in Australia), so my English accent is a little all over the place, but I usually stick to Received Pronunciation as much as I can when I speak English. I came to Japan in 2017 and I’ve been living in Osaka ever since. I also completed a 420-hour Japanese Language Teacher Training Course in 2023, just to have a better grasp of the Japanese language.
Interviewer: Describe yourself in few words please?
Hing: Avuncular, particular and secular.
Interviewer: Any favourite phrases?
Hing:  “No good deed goes unpunished.”
Interviewer:  That’s a bit cynical, isn’t it?
Hing: Well, look what happened to Urashima Taro…
Interviewer: Fair enough. What are your lessons like?
Hing: I’ll do whatever works for the students; the lessons are not about me. I just hope that I can help them learn the language more efficiently.
Interviewer: Alright, thank you very much for your time today!
Hing: No worries!

Nice to meet you, my name is Jacqueline and I come from Singapore. I am currently an undergradutate majoring in biology, and I am set to do research in the field of comparative neurobiology. I came to Japan in 2019, lived in Tokyo for a year before moving over to Osaka. In Singapore, everyone has to have two mother tongues, and for me, that’s Chinese and English. Feel free to ask me anything about Southeast Asia and Chinese related matters.
I’ve worked part-time at a few English schools catered for children, and have also acted as a facilitator at English speaking cafes in my university. At hideout, I’ll be mostly in charge of discussion, pronunciation and speaking classes. I hope they will be of help to your journey in learning English!

Shiori
Hello! My name is Shiori.
I am 22 years old, born and raised in Osaka.
At HIDEOUT, I mainly teach grammar, phrases, and conversational expressions at the beginner, pre-intermediate, and intermediate levels.
I started studying English when I was 19 years old, and I have no particular experience of going on a long-term study abroad or working holiday because of the COVIT-19. Going abroad is one way to learn English, but you can also speak and use English in Japan! It is of course that you cannot do it at first, as I did, and you may feel discouraged. But let’s have fun learning English little by little while thinking together! I am waiting for you!

Tsveta
Hello! I’m Tsveta and I come from Bulgaria (if you’re wondering where that is, look the yoghurt you have in your fridge 😁). I have been living in Osaka for the past 4 years and currently I’m a 4th year student at Osaka university majoring in economics. I have been teaching kids for the last 5 years and now I am switching to adults. My classes are concentrated on English for social media and more conversational styles. I hope that we will have fun while learning English together!

Amy
Nice to meet you! I’m Amy, from sunny England – the land where it never rains (that might be a lie…)!
When you think of England you might think about one of the following:
Football (soccer!)
Harry Potter (You’re a wizard, Harry)
Un-seasoned food
The Beatles

I’ll try and answer any questions you may have about the above topics but I can’t promise to know anything about The Beatles other than the song “Yellow Submarine”…

I am a Sushiro regular, so I’d like to think Japan has adopted me. I’m obsessed with video games, books and karaoke. The one thing I miss most about England is the food ‘beans on toast’, however if I didn’t live in Japan then I wouldn’t get to meet all of you lovely people, so I’m happy to be here!

I’ve lived and taught in Japan for over 4 years now and have taught many different age groups and levels so please don’t be embarrassed to speak English because I believe in you! Let’s build up our English building blocks together and at the end of the journey we can sit in the castle we’ve made like the queens we are!
